MMSAPA special day of training has been scheduled for Ohio Freemasons who would like to promote the Masonic Model Student Assistance program at their local schools.  The training will be held at the Grand Lodge Building, 634 High Street, Worthington on Saturday, December 10 from 10 am to 5 pm.  Lunch and training materials will be provided to all registered participants.  There is no cost to participate, but registration is required.  To register please email the State Coordinator, Michael Cecil, at mccecil@aol.com not later than December 7.

Larry Newman, one of the originators of the program, will explain how the Masonic Model training assists schools to identify and intervene with at-risks students and the best ways to promote this training to schools.

The Grand Lodge of Ohio has sponsored the cost of several Masonic Model trainings each year since 1997, and Grand Master Kevin B. Todd has made it a special emphasis during his year as Grand Master.

About MMSAP:

MMSAP is an intensive workshop for educators to learn how to identify, intervene with, and create appropriate referrals for students that may be at risk for substance abuse, depression, suicide, bullying, or violence. This workshop trains a Core Team of five to eight educators from a school building in how to intervene early and effectively with students that display patterns of behaviors that threaten their success at school.

MMSAP training enables K-12 schools to accurately assess their current strengths and shortcomings so that they may actively build a plan for future development.

MMSAP training is a comprehensive prevention and intervention services training that can be integrated into district-wide policy, programs, and curriculum.

MMSAP is operated by the National Masonic Foundation for Children in its mission to help kids strive towards healthy, productive lives. MMSAP training is performed by Newman/Stecher Int'l., an education consulting firm that provides training and technical assistance for at-risk prevention/intervention student assistance programming to school districts and community groups throughout the United States. Newman/Stecher Int'l. is the sole provider of MMSAP training.

The Masonic Model Program also offers additional workshops for schools:

  • MMSAP Booster Training
  • Action Planning & Problem Solving
  • Administrator Academy: Effective Management of "People Problem" Issues in Schools
  • Building A Classroom Community
  • Group Facilitator Training
  • Safe Schools: Conflict Management and Bullying Prevention
  • Diversity and Multicultural Awareness
